  • Join members of the San Diego Master Food Preservers as they share research-based practices of safe home food preservation. Topics will include food safety, harvesting, storage, freezing, dehydrating and canning processes.

Instructors: San Diego Master Food Preservers. The University of California Master Food Preserver Program extends UC research-based information about home food safety and preservation to the public.

  • Mosaic a beautiful dragonfly in a straight edge 9x7" piece of flagstone. Mirrored, iridescent, and shiny glass of various colors will be your tessera. This will not be grouted, but will have a "grouted look" because of the adhesive we will be using.

Instructor: Judy MacKenzie, a Master Gardener for 12 years, thinks a garden is not complete without some adornment. Join her in making this jewel for your garden.

  • Kratky method hydroponics was developed by Bernard Kratky (full article - see link below), a researcher at the University of Hawaii in the 1990s. The non-recirculating hydroponic Kratky method does not require pumps, electricity, or wicks. Instead, plants grow in a netted pot containing a growing medium atop a “raft” that is fixed to the top of a small container or tank and filled with nutrient solution. As the plant grows, the nutrient solution level decreases to allow for air space. During the class, participants will assemble their own 20 gallon system and review how to fill and maintain it once the tub is placed in it's final location. We will have a fully filled and operational system ready to view the day of the training.

Below is a link to a playlist of 5 videos to watch ahead of time that show the system set up.
For more information from Gerry about the systems, see the Hydroponics link below.
